On Wednesday 1st July 2009, Bois Rouge sugar mill started to crush the first sugarcane this season. Forecasts promise a good harvest with an estimated 950,000 tonnes.

This year, the sugar mill decided to revive certain traditions, one of which consists in blessing the working tools.  Two religious ceremonies took place on Friday 3 July at the factory site, a Tamil blessing early in the morning and a Catholic one in the late morning.
